Learning any new language is always an exciting and beneficial thing to do. Mastering an additional language to your own native tongue will open up new horizons and enhance your life in numerous ways. A second language can be a verbal window to a new culture, and new friends; and it will encourage you to listen more and help activate your brain in a positive way.
Of course trying to learn a new language can be a difficult and frustrating experience – it’s not normally a simple task to undertake. However the rewards of being able to proficiently or fluently speak in a different language will heavily outweigh any downsides faced during the learning process.
Embracing a new language will always be worth the effort, and this is no more so true than when learning English. English is spoken extensively across the world and throughout international academic institutions and corporations. There are reportedly 67 nations that have English as their primary language and an additional 27 countries where English is spoken as a secondary ‘official’ language.
The benefits of learning English exist in so many areas of life, from higher education to work, through to travel and friendships – below are seven reasons why.
